Arsenal’s Tammy Abraham pursuit can trigger transfer domino effect in Chelsea’s favour

Arsenal’s interest in Tammy Abraham could result in a transfer domino effect much like the one involving Olivier Giroud, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Michy Batshuayi back in January 2018.

The Gunners were allowed to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund three-and-a-half years ago as Chelsea let Batshuayi join the German side on loan, which then allowed Giroud to switch the Emirates Stadium for Stamford Bridge.

A three-way striker transfer saga involving the two London sides could potentially happen this summer again if reports linking Abraham to Arsenal come to fruition.

Both The Telegraph and The Athletic have claimed this month that Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the English international, and the Spaniard could make a move for him if he is able to offload French forward Alexandre Lacazette, who has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at the club.

Lacazette, who moved from Ligue 1 giants Lyon back in the summer of 2017, has previously garnered interest from Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid, with their previous transfer ban stopping him from a move to Diego Simeone’s side four years ago.

football.london understands that Simeone attempted to sign the 30-year-old last summer but a move eventually failed to materialise and Lacazette stayed in north London last term instead.

If the Spanish giants decided to return for him this summer then it could mean Arsenal firm up their Abraham interest, allowing Chelsea to have a free-run at another reported Atletico target, in the shape of Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann, who spent five seasons at the Wanda Metropolitano before moving to Barcelona two years ago, has been linked with a move back to his former club, given Barca need to cut their wage bill in an attempt to give legendary forward Lionel Messi a new deal.

However, if the Blues sell Abraham to Arsenal it could mean Atletico move for Lacazette and Thomas Tuchel could go all-out for Griezmann this summer.

The French forward was imperious for Atletico, bagging 133 goals and 50 assists across 257 games but has struggled during his time at the Nou Camp, netting just 35 goals and 17 assists in 99 appearances for the Blaugrana.

However, given Tuchel’s high-pressing, defensively organised system bears some similarities to Simeone’s, then it is likely Griezmann would thrive under the German’s tutelage.
