Mikel Arteta looks set to be proven correct with his thoughts on Emile Smith Rowe’s imminent future with Arsenal.
The Gunners midfielder had been strongly linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer, with Premier League rivals Aston Villa understood to be hugely interested in his signature.
Various reports suggested that Dean Smith’s side had lodged two bids for the Englishman, with Arsenal remaining firm on their outlook that he was not for sale despite a fresh contract having yet to be agreed upon.
Arsenal boss Arteta shared that outlook, having confirmed that Smith Rowe was set to remain in north London.

Speaking following a pre-season defeat to Hibernian last week, the Spaniard said: “Without a question, yes. He will stay here, 100 per cent”.
Now, the former midfielder looks set to be proven right with Villa having reportedly moved onto alternative targets. According to Birmingham Live, they are now eyeing a move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey and thus have “moved on” from Smith Rowe.
The news will, of course, be a huge boost to Arteta’s plans for the Gunners ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Smith Rowe began to display his abilities on a consistent basis for Arsenal last season having been afforded 33 outings in all competitions throughout the campaign. He netted four goals and chalked up eight assists in the process.
Doubts over his future remain due to Smith Rowe’s current contractual situation in north London with just two years remaining on his deal.
