London’s best and worst GP surgeries revealed – and one practice scored 100 per cent

The results are in.

The results of nation-wide patient survey published this month, has revealed what residents really think about all aspects of their local GP surgery.

Residents were asked for their opinion on a variety of elements about their practice, from booking appointments, waiting times, out-of-hours services and the quality of care given.

In London, the results are broken down into each Clinical Commissioning Group – North Central, South East, North West, North East and South West.

But how did your local GP surgery do? Here are the results.

On a national scale – the results look pretty positive.

850,000 responses were received and 83% of those people said they had a ‘good’ overall experience of their GP practice and only 7% said it was poor. And 62% of people who wanted a same day appointment say they got one.

South West London

The best performing practice in south west London was Dr Sugumar And Partner on Maldon Road in Wallington (SM6 8BL). A staggering 99% of respondents described their overall experience of the GP as ‘Good’.

Second was The Grove Road Practice in Sutton (SM1 2DB), with 98% ‘Good’ rating, followed by Richmond Lock Surgery in Twickenham (TW1 1PS) and Mitchley Avenue Surgery in Croydon (CR2 9HH) both scoring 98%.

At the other end of the scale according to the data was the Rowans Surgery on Windemere Road in Streatham ( SW16 5HF ). Just 57% of patient respondents rated the practice as ‘Good’ in the survey.

Other surgeries that performed worst overall in the data included:

  • The Practice Surgeries Ltd on Edridge Road in Croydon ( CR0 1FE ), with 63% ‘Good’ rating
  • Morden Hall Medical Centre in Merton (SW19 3DA ) with 68%.

North Central London

Over in North London, results were pretty similar to the national picture, with 81% rating their experience as ‘Good’.

The worst overall performers

The worst performing surgery by some way was the Medicus Select Care surgery on Hampstead Road. Only 31% of patients rated their experience as good

Next worst was:

  • The Medicus Health Partners – Freezywater Centre – only 41% of patients rating ‘good’
  • Holly Park Clinic (49%)
  • Mulbery Medical Practice (54%)
  • Dr Azim and Partners (56%)

The best performers

  • Museum Practice (98% patients rating ‘good’)
  • Adler JS- Teh Surgery (97% patients rating ‘good’)
  • Stroud Green Medical Centre (96% patients rating ‘good’)
  • Medicus Health Willow House (95% patients rating ‘good’)
  • Queens Avenue Practice (94% patients rating ‘good’)

South East London

Over in South East London, the results were similar to the national picture – but one GP surgery got a very impressive 100%.

Here are the top 5 best and worst overall performers.

Worst

  • Trinity Medical Centre (43% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Welling Medical Practice (54% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Bexley Group Practice (59% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Crescent Surgery (60%% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Waverley PMS (61% patients rated ‘good’)

Best

  • QHS GP care Home Service (100% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Ingleton Avenue Surgery (98% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Lee Road Surgery (96% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Bursted Wood Surgery (96% patients rated ‘good’)
  • St James Practice (95% patients rated ‘good’)

North West London

The worst performer, The Stanmore Medical Centre, was let down by the question ‘How easy it it to get through to someone at your GP pratice on the phone?’. For this, only 18% of patients said it was ‘easy’.

  • Canberra Old Oak surgery (57% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Lady Margaret Road Medical Centre (59% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Oxgate Gardens Surgery (61% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Albany Practice (61% patients rated ‘good’)

The best

  • Southcote Clinic (100% patients rated ‘good’)
  • The Pembridge Villas Surgery (97% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Great Chapel Street Medical Centre (96% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Srikrishnamurthy Harrow Road Surgery (96% patients rated’good’)
  • Royal Hospital Chelsea (96% patients rated ‘good’)

North East

Over in the North East, 77% of respondents rated their surgery as ‘good’, only a little behind the national picture.

At one surgery, The Doctors House, in Ilford (IG3), only 19% of patients said it was easy to get through to someone on the phone at the practice.

  • Oak Tree Medical Centre (48% patients rated ‘good’)
  • The Doctors House (50% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Harford Health Centre (52% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Five Elms Medical Pratice (53% patients rated ‘good’)

  • Cranham Village Surgery (99% patients rated ‘good’)
  • The Azad Practice (98% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Rahman and TSOI (96% patients rated ‘good’)
  • The Shrubberues Medical Centre (95% patients rated ‘good’)
  • Glebelands Practice (95% patients rated ‘good’)
