The 22 London NHS hospitals getting brand new departments and new equipment

Plans to improve the capital’s hospitals mean that two entire new hospitals will be built, two hospitals will be rebuilt, and many more London hospitals will have facilities improved or new equipment installed.

A total of 22 London hospitals will benefit from the funding.

Its good news as the importance of the NHS has been made more clear than ever in the last year and half with the coronavirus pandemic.

In October 2020, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced details of 40 hospitals across the country to be built by 2030. However, factcheckers found that money had been comitted only to upgrade six hospitals, with 38 others given money for building work.

NHS buildings and facilities will also benefit from £850 million of funding for improvements.

Here’s the full list of London hospitals and what benefits they will see:

Barts Health NHS Trust

A new hospital at Whipps Cross, providing a range of patient services including emergency and maternity.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

A new major hospital for Epsom General Hospital and St Helier Hospital.

Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Hillingdon Hospital will be rebuilt to replace the ageing estate and to tackle a significant critical backlog.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

St Mary’s Paddington will be rebuilt, as will Hammersmith Hospital.

A new clinical academic redevelopment near ICL White City Campus, co-located with Imperial College biomedical campus will take place.

Charing Cross Hospital will also see major floor-by-floor refurbishment.

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

A new eye care, research and education facility will be introduced at the Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust

Critical care units at Croydon University Hospital will be refurbished and extended.

NHS Barking CCG, NHS Havering CCG, NHS Redbridge CCG, North East London NHS Foundation Trust

Funding will go towards developing St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.

Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Funding will go towards new critical care facilities, a neonatal intensive care unit, a delivery suite and midwifery-led birth unit and new operating theatres.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust

The Trust is receiving one MRI machine.

Barts Health NHS Trust

The Trust is receiving two CT scanners and one MRI machine.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving two CT scanners.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

The Trust is receiving one MRI machine.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving one MRI machine.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving two CT scanners and one MRI machine.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

The Trust is receiving seven MRI machines.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving six digital mammography units, five breast screening trailers, one CT scanner and two MRI machines.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust

The Trust is receiving one CT scanner and three MRI machines

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving six digital mammography units, four breast screening trailers and three MRI machines.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving one digital mammography unit and two MRI machines.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving one digital mammography unit and one CT scanner.

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving two CT scanners and four MRI Machines.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust is receiving two digital mammography units and two MRI machines.

Whittington Health NHS Trust

The Trust is receiving one digital mammography unit.
