Arsenal’s pre-season tour to USA cancelled after Covid-19 cases revealed

1

Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States has been cancelled.

As reported by The Athletic, the reason for the decision is because there has been some COVID19 cases in the Gunners’ camp.

In addition, it’s understood that there is only a small number of members of the camp who have tested positives that would have been in travelling party, but all are asymptomatic.

Arsenal are now said to be working through alternate plans to complete their pre-season schedule, but this development is hardly the best preparation ahead of the new Premier League season that begins in less than a month with a trip to Brentford.

The Gunners had been scheduled to face Inter Milan on Sunday in the Florida Cup before facing one of Everton/Millonarios next Wednesday or Thursday.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be well aware of what missing out on two pre-season fixtures could mean for his side after praising their recent trip to Scotland.

“I think it was perfect, even the weather was something that we didn’t expect,” he said after the 2-2 draw with Rangers last weekend. “I think KT’s been really helpful with that.

“Everything, I think the way we’ve been treated by the hotel, the staff, the facilities, I think it was a really positive camp.”

The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.
