A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.55am yesterday morning (July 18) to reports that a person was unwell in Manchester Road, Isle of Dogs.

“We sent an ambulance crew, three medics in fast response cars and an advanced paramedic to the scene.

“The first paramedic arrived in less than seven minutes. Despite the best efforts of our crews, the patient sadly died at the scene.”

The news was shared on a community Facebook group with the caption: “A young man has passed away during a football session. He had a heat stroke.

It read: “I play football on Sunday mornings, and the worst thing that could happen on a football pitch happened to us today.
