The gorgeous village 30 minutes from London with stunning country walks and a champagne bar

Imagine being able to retreat to the beautiful countryside while still being able to get into central London within 30 minutes.

That’s the reality for the residents of charming Surrey village Warlingham and its many frequent visitors.

Warlingham is just 14 miles south of the centre of London and 22 miles east of the county town, Guildford – and it’s only a 15 minute drive from Croydon.

It is estimated to have just over 8000 residents, making it quiet compared to London – a perfect getaway for people who want a beautiful, quiet setting for the weekend.

Warlingham is famous for its stunning scenery, lush countryside and scenic landscapes. It’s a popular area for to its countryside walks and hikes – there is nothing quite like a refreshing walk in mother nature after a long week of work.

In fact, Warlingham’s countryside has its own isolated valleys known as the Warlingham Circular Walk. Explorers can take an adventure within its scenic fields, valleys and woods and admire the natural habitat around them.

The walk has even become part of the prestigious South London Downs National Nature Reserve, making it an iconic natural landscape in the area.

Warlingham is known to have an array of hidden gems within and around its countryside, where visitors can take part in activities such as cycling and hiking, which often can’t be easily done in London.

Skid Hill lane is another of its attractions: a road cycling highlight due to its segment just for cyclists, where people are able to cycle away in the amazing countryside with ease.

The village has even more to offer apart from its glorious nature and stunning scenery: it has a variety of restaurants and pubs that visitors can visit.

Pubs such as the Whyteleafe Tavern and The Radius Arms are great for some quick drinks.

The two local pubs are in close proximity to Upper Warlingham Station, making it an ideal spot for visitors to grab some refreshments before hopping on a train back to London.

However, if you choose to stay in Warlingham for some fine dining, then it’s a good decision – the village has plenty of fantastic restaurants to choose from.

La Botija Tapas Bar is located in the heart of Warlingham and is rated as one of the best restaurants in the village. The restaurant serves authentic Mediterranean, European and even Spanish cuisine.

Warlingham also has a popular Indian restaurant, India Dining. India Dining also offers its very own champagne bar, so the option of some fancy drinks is always available.

How to get there

You can drive to Warlingham from central London in around an hour – but from Croydon it’s just 15 minutes

The village has convenient train links: London’s Victoria Station has a line to Upper Warlingham Station, which reaches the village in just 30 minutes.

Londoners also have the option to drive to Warlingham, which takes around an hour from the centre of the city.

Warlingham is definitely worth a visit even for a sweet day trip due to its beautiful countryside and rich history, so hop on a train and go on an adventure.
