Questions certainly remain over the future of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane amid reports he may leave the club.
The England captain has been rumoured to be wanting to depart north London throughout the summer, with Premier League rivals Manchester City emerging as a real contender for his signature.
The Athletic have reported that the reigning Premier League champions are determined to sign Kane but are not willing to wait until the final throes of the transfer window in which to do that as they aim to replace Sergio Aguero.
Should they fail to get a deal over the line, with it being understood that Daniel Levy is hugely adverse to selling his star striker and it would likely take a bid of more than £150million to even start talks, they could potentially move onto alternative targets.
It is reported that Benfica hitman Darwin Nunez is on the list of potential forwards that Pep Guardiola could potentially look into signing, with the Argentine having netted 14 goals in all competitions last season.
It is further suggested that the 22-year-old is not Man City’s only candidate as they aim to bring in a forward despite full focus apparently being on Tottenham man Kane.
Regarding his future then, it may just be a case of Daniel Levy ensuring he continues his current stance of insisting the striker is not for sale.
Should that continue long enough, this would thus force City’s hand in making a move for one of their many Kane alternatives as the 2021/22 season creeps ever closer.
So whilst the Citizens reportedly remain keen on bringing Kane to the Etihad Stadium, there is now some sense clarity over the timeline of any potential deal and the way Levy can answer those questions.
