When Serge Aurier, Troy Parrott and other Tottenham players are expected in pre-season training

Nuno Espirito Santo will now start getting the remainder of his Tottenham Hotspur players back at the club following their international exploits.

The new Spurs head coach has been fortunate in that the club’s disappointing last season meant that the majority of his players did not get called up for international competition this summer.

That means he has had a bigger group to work with in the early stages of his first pre-season as he looks to get his ideas and methods across to the players.

Now it is a case of when others will return as their exploits for their countries have finished, starting with some who were on international duty abroad in the weeks just after last season finished.

Son Heung-min was expected to return early this week to Hotspur Way, while Serge Aurier is believed to also be coming back to training this week.

Some fans have been looking out for young Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott. The 19-year-old has already returned to pre-season but was set to train with the U23s squad for a week before linking up with Espirito Santo’s sessions this week.

There are also some injured players who have returned to outdoor work in Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga as part of their recovery. Skipp is expected to return to full training this week with the group and Tanganga is not far behind.

Then it is about those coming back from the Euros and Copa America.

Tottenham’s standard recovery period given to players after their tournaments come to an end is a minimum of 21 days after their time with their country’s squad camp finishes, although some choose to return earlier.

Wales exited the Euros at the round of 16 to Denmark on June 26 and Ben Davies and Joe Rodon are currently expected to return on July 23, which is just over three weeks before Tottenham’s Premier League season begins against Manchester City.

Some players could decide to return slightly earlier as they look to impress Espirito Santo but on the whole that timeframe will be kept to.

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko exited the Euros with France two days after Wales and will return to the club around the same time.

Espirito Santo will have to wait longer for the remainder of his international stars as they all reached the semi-final or final of their respective competitions.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s Denmark lost to England in the semi-finals at the Euros on July 7 and Harry Kane was of course involved in that heart-breaking final defeat on penalties on July 11.

At the Copa America, Davinson Sanchez’s Colombia won the third-place match against Peru on July 10 and Giovani Lo Celso won the competition with Argentina the following day, overcoming Brazil.

Unless they decide to cut short their own rest, those four players will return to the club the week before the new season begins.

Espirito Santo and his coaching staff will be hoping that their lengthy tournament exploits and then keeping on top of their basic fitness during their breaks will allow them to slip quickly into tactical and shape work when they return to Hotspur Way rather than focus much on fitness work.

Tottenham have a big season ahead and a new head coach at the helm and he will have to get the maximum out of every minute he gets with the players before a tough start to the campaign.
