Baby discovered useless in mattress after sleeping between dad and mom, inquest instructed
A 13-month outdated child died after sleeping between his dad and mom in mattress, an inquest heard.
Ifan George Torlop was “blue in color” when his dad and mom Alana Bailey and Samuel Torlop had been woken up by their six-year-old son on August 2, 2020.
An inquest into his demise held at Swansea Guildhall on Wednesday, heard how Mr Torlop was woken by Miss Bailey “screaming” after she observed that their son – who had been sleeping between them within the double mattress – had “slipped down the mattress and was coated by the cover” and “did not appear proper”.
Recording an open conclusion, assistant coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, Aled Wyn Gruffydd, stated:
Ifan was a match and nicely boy. He was nicely cared for, appropriately nourished, and clear. His reason for demise was unascertained and there was no proof of overlaying. This is a tragic case and the dad and mom’ worst nightmare. My deepest condolences go to them.
