Tower Hamlets music teacher jailed over child abuse images

A music teacher who appeared on expertise present The Voice has been jailed after being caught viewing and distributing child abuse images.

Paul Rajasegaram, who taught at a faculty in Tower Hamlets, was arrested after an investigation discovered he was behind an internet persona discussing sexual abuse of youngsters on a chat platform frequented by paedophiles.

Martin Ludlow, operations supervisor on the National Crime Agency (NCA), mentioned: “Rajasegaram was a big threat to youngsters and as a teacher had entry to younger boys whom he was sexually interested in.

“He sought out child abuse images and exchanged them with others. It is simple to neglect that behind each sexual abuse picture is a child whose life has been torn aside by exploitation, with males like Rajasegaram fuelling the demand for this horrendous materials.”

Officers from the NCA gained intelligence {that a} consumer on the platform had discovered two victims, aged 10 and 12, to be “actually cute”.

Further investigation led them to 33-year-old Rajasegaram and he was arrested in January 2018.

Plenty of units had been seized from his house in Westminster, and forensic evaluation of an Apple laptop computer pc revealed 58 indecent images and 10 child abuse movies.

Chat logs from a Skype account linked to Rajasegaram confirmed he had shared child abuse images with like-minded people. These ranged from class A – essentially the most obscene – to C.

Following arrest, Rajasegaram was suspended from his faculty – which has not been named – and a performing arts faculty the place he labored at weekends.

The NCA performed safeguarding checks on pupils on the two faculties, together with the youngsters that Rajasegaram had known as “cute”.

There was no proof offending had taken place towards any pupil.

Rajasegaram was sentenced to 2 years and three months at Southwark Crown Court on May 19.

He pleaded responsible on April 14 to three counts of creating, and two of distributing, indecent images of youngsters.
