Woman dies in Croydon house fire which destroyed entire ground floor

A lady in her 50s has been killed in a house fire in Croydon.

Fire crews had been known as to the blaze at a mid-terraced house over two flooring in Sutherland Road, Broad Green at 10.45am on Saturday (March 27).

Firefighters managed to rescue a lady from the fire however she died shortly after on the scene, the London Fire Brigade mentioned.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident was not being handled as suspicious.

It took 40 firefighters to deal with the blaze

It took six fire engines and round 40 firefighters to deal with the blaze on the mid-terraced house, which London Fire Brigade say “destroyed” the ground floor.

Fire crews from Norbury, West Norwood, Mitcham and Woodside fire stations attended the house fire.

Drivers in the world had been requested to keep away from Sutherland Road and the junction with Canterbury Road throughout and shortly after the blaze.

Firefighters had the fire underneath management by 12.33am.

A spokesperson for LFB mentioned: “The reason for the blaze is underneath investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service and the Brigade’s fire investigators.”
