Association sues Lloyd’s of London over claim denial

The largest affiliation of plaintiffs’ attorneys within the US is suing its insurer.

The American Association for Justice is suing Lloyd’s of London for denying a US$1 million protection claim after the affiliation’s 2020 annual convention was cancelled as a result of COVID-19 outbreak, in response to a Reuters report. The lawsuit was filed in federal court docket Monday.

Lloyd’s has not substantively responded to the affiliation’s allegations. Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders, the insurer’s legislation agency, didn’t reply to a request for remark, Reuters reported.

Over the previous 12 months, there was a raft of lawsuits filed in opposition to insurers for denying COVID-19-related claims – usually by companies who say their enterprise interruption safety ought to cowl pandemic-related closures.
