Campaigners who oppose the Silvertown Tunnel say there’s “fury boiling over” after plans together with the felling of greater than 100 bushes had been swiftly withdrawn.

Not less than 111 bushes had been earmarked for destruction in a planning utility submitted to Greenwich Council in January by Riverlinx, the consortium in control of delivering the tunnel.

Although the applying was withdrawn simply 10 days after being submitted, campaigners say they concern a “barrage of latest lesser planning purposes” that would see the bushes regularly destroyed.

Kate Middleton, a neighborhood campaigner, stated: “It’s actually devastating as a result of you already know from different campaigns that the bushes are the issues that go first, however we simply form of assumed that they might take down the bushes from the precise work web site. And so the truth that they’re taking down all of the streets’ bushes is simply felony actually, it’s vandalism.”

“You’d suppose at the moment that they’d really suppose by methods of defending the bushes and methods of getting their heavy automobiles for the constructing out and in with out having to take down each single tree on that a part of the peninsula.”

Regardless of the planning utility being withdrawn, campaigners say many bushes on the Greenwich peninsula, a few of them greater than 50 years outdated, have been marked with white crosses to designate them for removing, with some already having been felled.

In a e-newsletter to residents, Sheila Keeble of the East Greenwich Residents Affiliation stated, “it seems to be unimaginable for the tunnel to go forward with out plenty of additional tree loss”.

Ms Keeble stated: “After the shortest ever planning utility, withdrawn after 10 days, the 111 bushes threatened with removing at the moment are, briefly, protected once more. However what was TfL’s and Riverlinx’s plan?”

“Certainly they will need to have realised that this degree of tree destruction wouldn’t go unnoticed. Cynically, we could nicely anticipate a barrage of latest lesser planning purposes with 20 or so bushes scheduled for chopping down slightly than this slightly rash mass extermination.”
