JJ Rhatigan inks deal for 2,000–home scheme worth £500m

JJ Rhatigan has been appointed to build 2,000 new homes in a deal with developer Strawberry Star Group worth £500m.

The £500m gross development value is split across four schemes. The Irish contractor is currently working on the first phase of the £280m Lu2on (pictured) scheme in Luton, Bedfordshire, and has now been appointed to the remainder of London developer Strawberry Star’s portfolio of mixed-use projects. These include phase two of the Luton scheme that will comprise a further 450 apartments and a 203-bedroom hotel.

The other three developments in Harlow, Essex, and Wembley and Kenton in north-west London will deliver a further 1,150 new homes.

JJ Rhatigan chief executive Ger Ronayne said: “We have a reputation for construction excellence and we share Strawberry Star’s vision to deliver much-needed mixed-use schemes that everyone can be proud of. This partnership has evolved from the excellent working relationship and mutual trust we have established with Strawberry Star over the past two years.”

The CEO of the £52m-turnover firm added: “This will provide a springboard for us to grow our business even further in the UK and particularly in the Greater London area.”

The firm’s recent developments in London include mixed-use schemes the £35m Callis Yard in Woolwich and the £32.5m Carolyn House project in Croydon. The contractor’s Ireland division posted a revenue of €364.5m (£318m), putting it among the largest in the country.
