EDS hit Leicester for six to stay top of PL2

Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad (EDS) remain top of the Premier League 2 table after recording an impressive 6-1 win away at Leicester City.

A brace each from Felix Nmecha and Liam Delap, and goals from Ben Knight and Alex Robertson saw Enzo Maresca’s side record a superb win on the road, to extend our unbeaten run to eight Premier League 2 games.

WHAT HAPPENED

After scoring two goals in his previous two games Knight was a man in form, and the 18-year-old soon continued his impressive scoring run as his deflected effort Jakub Stolarczyk to give City an early lead.

Knight’s early opener seemed to inject more confidence into Maresca’s side, as we doubled our lead soon after from the penalty spot.

Nmecha was the man to step up and he confidently converted from 12 yards for our second goal of the evening.

After missing the last two Premier League games through suspension, Delap was keen to make up lost time as the City number-nine added our third 10 minutes before the break.

The 18-year-old was not done there as he netted his second, and City’s fourth in the final moments of the first half for his 11th league goal of the season, to cap off a stunning first half display from Maresca’s team.

Into the second half, and it was more of the same as we continued to dominate, and our second half control was soon rewarded as Robertson came off the bench to add our fifth of the evening.

The City youngsters were not done there, as Nmecha netted his second, and our sixth with five mintues left to cap of scintilating display in front of goal.

Jacob Wakeling added a consolation for the hosts late on, however it wasn’t enough to take the shine off a quite magnificent display from Maresca’s men.

HOW WE LINED UP

James Trafford’s goal was protected by a back four of Claudio Gomes, Finley Burns, Callum Doyle and Adrian Bernabe.

Romeo Lavia played as our holding midfielder, with James McAtee and Felix Nmecha operating as attacking midfielders ahead.

Ben Knight and Sam Edozie ocupied the wings, whilst Liam Delap led the line up front.

WHAT IT MEANS

The victory means our EDS remain top of the Premier League 2 table on 28 points after 14 games.
