What happened between Timo Werner and Reece James in Chelsea training ahead of Newcastle

The Chelsea squad are in high spirits ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

And that comes as no surprise as the Blues remain unbeaten under new head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Wins over Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur, and Sheffield United have boosted Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the top-four this season, and they’re also in the FA Cup quarter-final after a narrow victory against Barnsley in midweek.

Now the attention shifts towards the visit of the Magpies and Tuchel’s side will be well aware that another three points will see them leapfrog Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Ahead of the big game at Stamford Bridge, the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Olivier Giroud were put through their paces at Chelsea ‘s training base in Cobham on Friday afternoon.

It was a normal session as one would expect, but there was a hilarious moment involving Reece James and Timo Werner.

As spotted in a ‘Chelsea Unseen’ training session video uploaded to the club’s YouTube page, the striker can be seen holding his head in his hands after being on the receiving end of a nutmeg.

At around the 5.14-minute mark, James nonchalantly rolls the ball between Werner’s legs which in turn prompts the whole squad to react in sheer joy.

Upon realising what had just happened, Werner, to his credit, accepts the humiliation by laughing it off while James shows his delight by jumping on the German’s back.

Werner is in line to return to the Chelsea squad after missing the FA Cup win at Barnsley, but Tuchel expects to be without Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.

“It should be absolutely okay for Timo Werner to come back,” Tuchel revealed in his pre-match press conference. “It’s maybe too close for Kai, still, and for sure for Thiago.
