Serge Aurier has explained that he failed a fitness test to take part in Tottenham Hotspur’s match at Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho had told football.london on Friday afternoon that he was not sure whether the Ivorian would be fit for the game at the Etihad Stadium.
The Portuguese explained that he would take a look at the right-back during the final training session before the match against Pep Guardiola’s men.
However, when the Spurs squad was confirmed on Saturday afternoon an hour before kick-off, Mourinho had chosen Japhet Tanganga at right-back, with Matt Doherty on the bench.

Once the team had been announced, Aurier took to Instagram to send a message to both his team-mates and the Tottenham fans.
“I did my best to be with you but tested them negative. I’m with you tonight. Good luck guys. See you soon fans,” posted the Ivory Coast international and he sealed it with a kissing emoji to the Spurs supporters.
