Explosion heard on London estate as ‘window and door’ blown out of flat in blast

An explosion or loud bang was heard in a block of flats on a London estate this evening.

Residents have been reportedly evacuated and fire crews are at the scene.

The loud bang has been said to have blown the window and door out at a top-floor flat on the Arden Estate in Hoxton, near Hackney.

One local said the force of the bang caused the window and door to be damaged, writes MyLondon.

The incident is believed to have happened shortly before 10pm today.

Images online show emergency services in the area and an apartment with damaged door and front window.

The Hoxton & Shoreditch Labour Twitter account says the blast took place at Hathaway House on the Arden Estate.

It also claims people have been evacuated from the area, although it’s not known how many residents have been affected.

Hackney councillor Kam Adams is also reportedly at the scene offering assistance, according to locals.

Reports online speak of an explosion or loud bang in the area at the time of the incident.

One person on Twitter said: “I heard it from my flat – very loud bang. Praise to @lfbhackney [the local fire brigade] for responding so quickly.”

Jess Kate Tweed, who was nearby at the time, said on Twitter: “Explosion in the block of flats opposite me in Hoxton.

“Fire and police are checking it out. The door and window blew out the flat on the top floor. No fire thankfully!”

It’s not yet known if there have been any injuries in relation to the incident.

Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade have been approached by the Daily Star.
