Joe Pigott is set to leave AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer in the summer.
The 27-year-old striker is not set to be short of suitors with his double in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Wigan Athletic taking his goal haul to 15 in all competitions.
Only Plymouth’s Luke Jephcott (16) and Jonson Clarke-Harris (14) have scored more in League One this season – with Pigott on 13.
The South London Press understands that Wycombe Wanderers were keen on Pigott in the January transfer window.
But with the Chairboys looking nailed on for relegation from the Championship, the former Charlton Athletic striker is biding his time in the hope he could still get a move to English football’s second tier.
Pigott has been involved in 17 of Wimbledon’s 29 league goals.
He needs just three more for a half-century of goals for the South London club, who he joined for a nominal fee from Maidstone United in January 2018.
Pigott is hoping to break the 20-goal barrier in the 2020-21 campaign. He said: “It’s got to be my target.
“I’m fairly happy with the goals total, but maybe the knock I played with for a few weeks didn’t really help and it affected me a little bit. I feel good again now though and hopefully that’s showing.”
Pigott got 18 goals when the Dons defied the odds to stay up in the 2018-19 season.
“Since I’ve been at this club, we either go on runs or we have serious slumps,” he said. “It’s happened once a season since I’ve been here and it’s obviously unfortunate, but that’s just how things have happened. I don’t really know why, but we need to get out of that.”
