A406 North Circular Road and A13 Barking traffic: Road shut for hours after fuel spillage caused miles of queues in icy conditions

The A13 was shut this morning (Thursday, February 11) which caused problems for London travellers.

A lorry broke down close to the Beckton Roundabout in Barking, Greater London, forcing the East-bound carriageway shut.

A diversion route was put in place, but long queues have already formed in the lead up to the incident.

The freezing conditions weren’t ideal for recovery, and motorists are at a standstill.

A subsequent fuel spillage kept the road closed for hours whilst teams clear up the spillage.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 4.20am on Thursday, February 11 police were made aware of a lorry that had shed some fuel on the eastbound carriageway of the A13 at Movers Lane, Barking.

“The road remains closed while the incident is dealt with.”

Transport for London said on their website: “A13 traffic is slow Eastbound with queues back past Beckton Roundabout.

“Traffic is also slow southbound on the A406 approaching the Beckton roundabout. Expect Delays.”

The road has since reopened.
